Meet The Author

K. A. Cross presents...

Heather Couch

About Heather

This is a flash story about a city girl with a southern personality. I say hey y’all, bake homemade coconut cream pie, drink sweet tea, have a Golden Retriever, am a musician, travel, love seersucker and bow ties, go to church on more days than just Sunday, and spend time with the family. I work too hard, drink too little (not at all), and love the life the good Lord has given me. I hope to be an inspiration to others, and help them know that the recipe for success is not measured by how much money one earns, but how one touches people’s life.

1. When did you first realise you wanted to be a writer?

I’ve been writing since I was in fourth grade. I’ve never really considered myself a “writer”, I just love writing.

2. In what kind of environment do you work best in?

I write best at night, right before bed, alone.

3. Do you ever base your characters on people you know?

Unintentionally, yes. It would be impossible not to do so, because I believe every person I meet leaves a lasting impression.

4. Do you ever wish that some of your characters were real?

They are real, I’m writing them into existence! Plus, they usually are are influenced by people I know or have met.

5. Do you plan out your books or do you just go with the flow?

I go with the flow. I have never outlined any of my books or chapters.

6. Who is your favourite author?

Frank Peretti. I started reading his books at 12, and he has been my biggest influence as a writer. He’s absolutely brilliant! The Stephen King of Christian Fiction.

7. What’s your favourite genre?

Supernatural/Mystery

8. What’s next for you?

Graduate with my masters in school counseling and become a school counselor. Oh, and finish book 2 in my Infinity Series :)

9. What advice would you give to someone just starting out?

Never give up, read books from great authors, write, and then write some more.

10. If you were stranded on an island which three items could you not live with out?

My journal, my Bible, my dog

11. If you wrote an autobiography about yourself what would you call it?

“Misguided Adventures that Happen to a Semi-Normal Woman”, that is my life!

12. What your guilty pleasure?

J.Crew blazers…it is a really bad obsession, but I’m always stylin’!

13. What’s your favourite season and why?

Winter, because of the holidays and the overall mood. It shifts in moods, one minute happy and the next minute melancholy. There is a lot of inspiration to write for me in the winter.

14. Do you have a nickname?

Lizzie, from Pride and Prejudice. It’s a long story, but it’s been my nickname for almost ten years by my best friend.

15. If you weren’t a writer what would your dream job be?

Governor of Kentucky

16. Sweet or sour?

I’m a sour patch kid, “at first I’m sour, then I’m sweet”.

17. What three words best describe you?

Tenacious, witty, super-fabulous! ;)

18. What your fondest childhood memory?

My family’s first real vacation happened when I was eight and that is my fondest memory. We started taking vacations yearly after that and still do.

19. Would you prefer a quiet night in or a night on the town?

A mixture of both. My version of a night on the town is going to an arts or sporting event with dinner at home.

20. What has been the best day of your life so far?

When I dedicated my life to Christ at eight.

21. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

There are many, but this one is entertaining and more recent. I gave a guy my number by writing him a poem and giving it to him in a donut. It did the trick too! :)

22. Do you believe in fate?

I don’t believe in coincidences, I believe everything happens for a purpose. So yes, I believe in fate but I also believe we can manipulate the outcome of fate. Although some things just can’t be anything other than fate.

23. If you could be any animal in the world what would you be and why?

A thoroughbred, because they are the elites of the horse family. They are strong, fast, graceful, and free-spririted.

24. For many of us writing is not our full time job, what is yours?

work in a bakery and go to grad school. When I’m not doing those two things full time, I am a musician and writer.

Reciprocal

Love knows no limits or boundaries. Can we chose who we love? In this new world that the government has created, we aren't free to choose. I have fallen in love with a person from another realm. They are called the Peregrinus and we know virtually nothing about them. There are rebels amongst our people who want destroy us. They want to eliminate the Peregrinus. They feel threatened that they are trying to take over our country like the long ago terrorists. This war brewing isn't unfamiliar to my country and I wonder at what cost it will stop. For me, I long to chose who I can love but it may cost me my life. Is love worth the fight?
